January's Race for the Wedding Date. When to Reserve Your Wedding Officiant for a Spring Wedding.
1/13/2019
The Race is on starting January for nabbing your desired Wedding Officiant. Typically right after the Bridal Shows.
The two most things each bride must do coming out of the gate without hesitation are...
1.) Secure Your Venue
2.) Secure Your Wedding Officiant.
We recommend You Don't Hesitate or Blink...In January, timing is everything!
The month of January is when most wedding venues and wedding officiants are being reserved well in advance.
If you are planning on a Spring or Summer Wedding, a sluggish start could be your wedding plans undoing!
So let's not go there.

Key Points for Choosing Your Wedding Officiant
If you don't have a home church, don't attend services regularly or, for that matter at all, then sorting through all the wedding officiant directories can feel a little overwhelming.
Here are a few tips on the key points to take into consideration when searching for the wedding officiant that's right for you.
The Basics of Selecting a Wedding Officiant.
It will put your mind at ease to know, that...it is very rare indeed that you'll run across a wedding officiant that truly sucks.
Even if you were blind folded and throwing darts at a wedding officiant list as a means of selection, you'd likely be just fine, no matter where the dart landed.
The truth is, most officiants are very professional and strive intently to meet their clients ceremony desires and needs. What greatly behooves the wedding couple to understand, is that...the officiant search is really much more about finding the right wedding officiant for who you are as a couple.
That's all together a horse of a different color. That said, let's break it down into manageable steps toward finding the wedding officiant that's right for your wedding and who you are as a couple.
The search is on!
Here are the best practices on selecting a Wedding Officiant.
Let's begin by marginalizing and minimizing the most common overwhelm factors.
Savvy Bride Tip: Start your officiant search early. The best practice is to book your officiant immediately after you have secured your venue, so begin searching and interviewing shortly after your engagement. Just like your wedding venue, officiants may be secured with a reservation deposit up to two years in advance.
First do a quick online search...this will take you to several national directories. Directories are helpful in locating wedding officiants in your general area.
With a quick examination of the local wedding officiant "directory profiles" will give you a quick overall feel for the officiants in your area. Pick at least three that stand out to you.
Now here's the important part...begin "visiting their websites", don't just stop at the local directories profiles and try to select. Profiles are just snap shot presentations, not anywhere near the whole picture...delve deeper. Do they offer a blog? Great! Read it, you'll learn a lot about their personality and personal style. A good thing!
Too often brides rush through this process or rely on social media snippets, this alone will not give you the insight needed to make a good decision. It's important to take the time to visit the officiant's sites, get a feel for who they are and what they are about through their actual websites. The websites will speak volumes about the officiant and many provide helpful tips, ideas and links specific to your area, as well as trusted vendors they have worked with throughout the years....this is a bonus!
Take your time and engage, don't rush through the process.
After viewing the officiant's website, pick three that most appeal to you. Now that you have made the preliminary selections, make appointments with your chosen wedding officiants to speak with each one. Most officiants offer a free phone consultation for inquiring couples. Now...here's important part!
Engage in a real conversation, actually talk with the three officiants you have selected, and don't be afraid to share details about how you envision your wedding ceremony, and if you aren't sure..."cause it's not like you get married everyday, is it?" ...then ask each officiant for their suggestions. Be sure to take note of not only their suggestions, but more importantly, how you felt during the conversation.
Here's what you'll be looking for during each visit.
I suggest using the 1 to 5 point rating system to help you with the selection process...5 being the highest and most desirable.
- Was the conversation flowing and easy, was he or she easy to talk with?
- Was the officiant a good listener...did they seem to understand - anticipate your needs?
- Did you feel personally comfortable, like you could open up and talk about anything, you could connect (be in simpatico) with the officiant?
- Did they display a sense of humor and willingness to be flexible concerning your needs and desires?
- Did you come away from the conversation feeling good about the interaction you had?
- If you can rate the officiant on the high end to all of the above, then you have just found the officiant that's right for you!
Being able to truly connect and relate well with your wedding officiant will make all the difference in the success, overall flow and presentation of your wedding ceremony from start to finish.
The fee should always be the last factor in your wedding officiant decision and rating process. Realistically, the wedding officiant will always be the least expensive wedding of all of your vendor fees and the one you should never consider fudging on to save a few dollars.
An experienced and skilled Wedding Officiate can and will influence the mood and feeling of your entire wedding in ways you could not know or fully appreciate.
If you are focused solely on the fee amount, you won't be able to hear and see what they themselves will bring to your wedding ceremony experience.
Instead, focus primarily on the quality of the connection and they way you feel when you communicate with them.

How It Works
Instead of sand, you will be combining glass crystals at your unity ceremony. The process is collaborative and captures your spirit. You’re working together with a highly skilled glass artist to create a work of art that will last a lifetime. You will remember and share the story of your wedding for years to come.
Goal One: Keep it Affordable
Goal Two: Keep the Details Minimal and Minimize Stress.
This means that neither of you should be distracted, preoccupied, frazzled or stress out as you enter into this covenant. The moment of marriage is one of the most significant life events you will ever experience. Therefore, everything else must be suspended in space and time while this is taking place.
All of your focus must be placed on your holy covenant to each other in the presence of God. This has more significance and influence on the health and wellbeing of your marriage long term than you could ever imagine. See the Wedding Wisdom Blog for more insight.
Goal Three: Keep Focused on the Marriage
Where this might seem like a great idea at first, most times this approach tends to over shadow the act of the marriage, resulting in a big party atmosphere as opposed to a celebrating a marriage if not kept in balance.
To be clear, wedding ceremonies, the act of getting married, and a wedding reception are and have always been two completely separate events.
A marriage is a precious, solemn and reverent event, the other is a celebration of such an event. If the prospect of having a big reception event is the main focus of your wedding plans. This is a red flag and needs to be assets carefully before proceeding into marriage. See Prepare for Marriage
Goal Four: Keep it Simple ...It's Beautiful.
What do you want to feel and experience in this most significant moment in your life? When you think about looking back on the moment when you became husband and wife and exchanged your marriage vows and entered the covenant marriage, what would you most like to remember?
When the waters of marriage get choppy and challenging, as all marriages do from time to time, what will you lean on and pull from that reminds you both that it's all worth it. Will the memories of that moment spur you forward to honor and uphold your commitment to your marriage?
These are vital questions and ones you need to discuss and put ahead of all other things when planning your wedding. Remembering, this is just the beginning of your journey of a life time as husband and wife. And in that journey there will be ample opportunity for many lavish parties, but only one opportunity for you to marry.

Well done!...you have stopped in at the right wedding blog.
You'll find Wedding Wisdom here that will help get your feet under you again, clear your mind, sooth those jangled nerves and get your wedding mojo moving in the right direction.
Here's where you are now...
January Bridal Shows are the the official start of The Race for the Date Moment, and is often termed The Running of the Brides by insiders.
It's simple really...
Think of it as an annual salmon run, salmon being the brides and wedding vendors being the fisherman. The fisherman are there for the purpose of catching XXX amount of salmon/brides, enough to fill their yearly quota.
Fisherman/Vendors aren't fussy about which salmon/brides they gather up, only that there is enough. Salmon/brides, on the other hand, have a specific place/ideal in mind that they are swimming up stream for.
This is the time when the Bride To Be begins to realize it's time to roll up her sleeves and get with the program on creating her dream wedding piece by piece.
Any bride that has decided to go the traditional timing route via Bridal Shows will soon realize that it's a quick paced competitive race to the finish. The best approach is to have a plan, a strategic methodology, stay focused, stay lose and patiently determined.
